we all LOVE makeovers in movies right?! they’re fun, and exciting, and usually in montage form. and they get people to like you! these are the best ugly ducklings turned beautiful swans in movies. spoiler alert: going blonde usually does the trick.

how great they become: she becomes one of the most popular girls in school!
fern mayo is a total dweeb! she has brown hair and frumpy dresses! gross!! that is until, she gets turned into a sexy vixen by the popular girls so she won’t rat them out for like murder. judy greer isn’t the prettiest girl in hollywood, but daaamn! she gets BLONDE hair (!) and lipstick (!!) and slutty clothes (!!!). and then she’s just so hot. and bitchy too. being hot makes her super bitchy.

9. the nutty professor
who gets a makeover: eddie murphy natch
how great they become: he becomes a great man? i can’t remember.
eddie murphy is so fat. and he just hates being fat! so since he’s a nutty professor and it’s a remake of the other movie, he creates some potion and it makes him skinny! now that is some social commentary, amiright? and then the movie goes on. anyway, from what i can remember, eddie murphy totally loves his new life after his wonderful makeover but i think in the end, he’s like “hey i’m fat and i’m gonna love it” and his makeover is gone.

8. encino man

how great they become: he goes from zero to hero
whats the first thing you do when you discover a caveman in your backyard? DUH! GIVE IT A MAKEOVER!!! nothing is more satisfying than a good hard makeover. so sean astin and pauly shore make link super hot and sexy with big curly pauly shore hair, awesome trench coat attire, and obviously a brand new pair of chucks! wow, what a makeover that was. and of course, this makeover makes the girls swoon!

7. class act
who gets a makeover: duncan, the new blade brown
how great they become: oh, we all buy it. he looks dope!
duncan pinderhuse is such a square! he has that huge eraser hair and um, he totally studies and buttons his shirts. so blade brown, the man he has to be in order to score pussy, makes him ditch those penny loafers and get some smoooothness. then he gets little curls done on his head, and he wears a gold tooth and wears all those fun 80s colors! now that was a makeover!

6. son-in-law
who gets a makeover: carla gugino
how great they become: what a fox! and she gets to be best buds with pauly shore!
pauly shore clearly loves makeovers. he’s in the past three movies. kinda weird, anyway! pauly meets this fresh piece of meat at college and he’s like “no way, you’re brunette and sweet, we gotta MAKE YOU OVER GURRL!!” first start with the clothes. they go shopping and she buys a slutty dress. then the hair, cut it off and don’t make it just blonde. make it like the color of gross fire. and then to top it off, get a tattoo of something i don’t even want to bother remembering on your ankle! now she’s a star!

5. just one of the guys
who gets a makeover: terry gets a gender swap!
how great they become: she goes from being hot and popular to a little pipsqueak
terry decides that if she’s going to be a writer, she better start looking like one! i.e. being a dude. so she cuts off those ratty curls and puts on some shades! voila! she’s a dude! not really my type of makeover but i guess it works because sherilyn fenn wants to bang it. and that’s very good. oh and she puts socks in her pants to make them look like huge balls. FUN MAKEOVER!

4. love potion #9
who gets a makeover: sandra bullock gets less lame
how great they become: she wins the heart of a rich guy AND tate donovan
sandra bullock wears GLASSES and she’s totally yucky! but when she and her scientist partner make the love potion, i guess the love potion grants her with a delightful makeover! she ditches the glasses and she gets eyeshadow and VAVOOM. what a looker. so much so, that she wins the hearts of the men around her, and thats not because of the love potion at all! its because of her! who is more attractive because of the love potion so i guess actually her makeover is just the love potion or something.

3. coyote ugly
who gets a makeover: piper perabo woooo-ie
how great they become: she goes from somewhat mousy to not at all mousy!
now this is a case of a makeover from within. clearly, piper doesn’t really look that different in these two pictures. but check out that grin post makeover. WHOA is she a looker! before could only raise one side of her mouth up an inch. it really shows what slutty clothes do. they make your mouth go up five inches instead of one! now that girl is ready to get into that bar and sing leanne rimes!

how great they become: they become omg omg so hot!
duuuuuuuuude. i mean those are some hot aliens, but how the fuck did julie brown make them over this well?! damon wayans. cute. sure. jim carrey. wow. he’s good as a young blonde. but um. jeff goldblum. um what. he was a blue furry alien and now he looks like that? that is seriously sensational makeover work. i wish i could turn everything into jeff goldblum.

how great they become: he gets into harvard because of that makeover!
was it possible for c thomas howell to become cuter than he already was? one wouldn’t think so. making him blonde would help obviously. but he’s already done that in a movie. what else. what makeover could make him the cutest and most wonderful he could be? making him black! duh! great makeover c tom!
